He and his family emigrated from Leicestershire to Wellington, New Zealand aboard the Oxford
arriving 23 July 1883.
He was a member of the firm Messrs McEwen, Brown and Kitto, mercers and hatters. He also worked for Messrs Charless Hill and sons, and later the Wellington Woollen Company. He was a member of the Wellington Working Men's Club.
He passed away 26 May 1920 at Wellington Hospital, having been hit by a tramcar.
